The Journey

This track crosses a street named after the photographer’s father in a city built because the railroad came to town. These were tracks his father walked as a young immigrant teenager in the early 1900’s selling candy along the east coast, later becoming a successful businessman and community leader. The image is iconic in that personal way and became the cover print of the photographer’s first book, “in Search of His Image, A Photographic Journey”. But it is universally emblematic with the sun striking the track at the juncture of decision. Which way to go, which route to take? Poets, philosophers, preachers and priests often ponder that question. -Florence, S.C. 2006
